Bo Nix and Patrick Surtain II were optimistic with their thoughts on the season opener despite the Denver Broncos losing 31-10 to the Kansas City Chiefs.
Nix started the third season of his NFL career with the Broncos, while Surtain kicked off Year 6. They stand out as stars on opposite sides of the ball, looking to lead Denver to prominent success.
However, they had a big bump on the road after recording a dud against the Chiefs. Nix only managed 17 out of 28 completions for 131 yards and a touchdown and an interception, while Surtain recorded three tackles.

Both players reflected on the Week 1 events while conversing with media on Thursday, per reporter Zac Stevens. They believe the team can perform better than it did against Kansas City, but they are not putting too much stock into what took place in the season opener.
“I learned a long time ago. You never play as bad as you think, and you never play as good as you think. So, for us, it was the case of we didn’t play as bad as what we thought. We were just there at the end of the game, we didn’t give any third down conversions, and we felt like it was 7-7, 14-7 and 21-7 for a long time in the game. So it was reachable, and we were in it for a while. We just didn’t help ourselves by any means,” Nix said.
“Defensively we started off pretty fast. In the end, we weren’t as fundamental… we let them get ahead of us in a way…The good thing is it’s still early,” Surtain stated.

What lies ahead for Bo Nix, Broncos
There’s a lot of time for the Broncos to regroup and get back on track. Both sides of the ball will require this, as the Chiefs loss serves as a great wake-up call towards Denver’s potential this year in the league.
Denver has the talent to be in the conversation as a playoff contender. They reached the AFC Championship Game last year after securing the top seed in the conference, hoping to build on that progress by getting over the hump this season.
The Broncos will look to bounce back in Week 2, being at home. They host the Jaguars in Week 2 as kickoff commences on Sept. 20 at 4:05 p.m. ET.
