Brendan Sorsby would be QB3 in 2026 NFL draft, per analyst

There is a lot of talk about Texas Tech quarterback Brendan Sorsby, who has applied for the NFl supplemental draft and is expected to be accepted. Teams like the Arizona Cardinals and others who do not have a known long-term answer at quarterback are going to look into him and will want to see if he could be an answer.

But what type of quarterback prospect is he?

NFL.com analyst Lance Zierlein, who writes up draft prospect profiles, wrote one for Sorsby and shared it on social media.

Sorsby is driven by a strong competitive nature and admirable level of energy on the field. His combination of size and athleticism is in line with what teams covet in today’s game. A gunslinger’s mentality allows for impressive deep throws to beat single coverage downfield but also leads to poor decision-making against high-safety looks. Sorsby doesn’t have elite arm strength, but he can throw with enough velocity and brings impressive arm talent to the field. He possesses NFL QB1 talent but climbing that hill and staying there will require him to be more consistent in getting through progressions and altering his game plan once the coverage look changes post-snap.

Zierlein grades Sorsby a 6.24, an average NFL starter.

By comparison with other quarterbacks in this year’s draft, Sorby would have been QB3.

No. 1 overall pick Fernando Mendoza received a grade of 6.73. No. 13 overall pick Ty Simpson got a 6.30. Carson Beck, the Cardinals’ third-round pick, selected No. 65 overall, received a grade of 6.14.

Based on these grades, Sorsby is slotted right in between Simpson and Beck as a prospect. He very well could have been drafted by the Cardinals in April.
