The NFL is learning of a likely late addition to the league months after the 2026 Draft came to an end. The news started surfacing over the last 24-48 hours and has fans from multiple teams watching very closely. An elite college football quarterback just became eligible to enter the league.
On Friday, the NCAA denied Texas Tech8217;s appeal to reinstate Brendan Sorsby‘s eligibility for a second time. As a result of his admission of gambling on college and professional sports, Sorsby was ruled permanently ineligible, including placing at least 40 wagers on Indiana football while a member of the Hoosiers’ team.
As the June 22 deadline approaches for applications for the NFL’s supplemental draft, Sorsby’s return to football will now take him through the NFL.
During his time at Indiana, Cincinnati, and Texas Tech, Sorsby placed more than 2,900 wagers totaling at least $90,000. Besides using his own accounts, he utilized those belonging to friends and family members as well.
As a result of his diagnosis of gambling addiction, Sorsby completed a 35-day rehabilitation program in early spring. His legal team has framed the issue as a mental health condition that the NCAA did not accommodate in accordance with its own bylaws.
Immediately after hearing the news, fans begged their favorite team to give Sorsby a chance:
- I know a Cleveland Brown when I see one
- Brendan Sorsby, welcome to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Supplemental draft here he comes where he’ll 100% be picked
NFL Supplemental Draft is where he’s headed
Choices have consequences but it’s ok. When he’s on the Jets he can bet millions on them not to cover.

Throughout his four years in college Sorsby proved to be a true dual threat quarterback:
- 35 games played
594 passing completions
968 passing attempts
61.4 completion percentage
7,208 passing yards
60 passing touchdowns
18 Interceptions
1,295 rushing yards
22 rushing touchdowns
It will be interesting to see where Sorsby lands. He could be a major steal for a team who didn’t expect him to be available.
