The Atlanta Braves need a more stable solution at shortstop. 

Ha-Seong Kim has performed awfully since returning from injury, and Mauricio Dubon is better used as a utility man. 

The Braves also have Jorge Mateo, but wouldn’t an All-Star shortstop be ideal? 

That’s what ESPN’s Jeff Passan proposed on Thursday as Atlanta’s dream trade-deadline match—an All-Star from the NL East who is having a career year at the plate. 

“Of all the dream trades, CJ Abrams going to Atlanta in an intradivision deal is the unlikeliest, even if he would stop Truist Park’s revolving door at shortstop,” Passan wrote.

“Between Jorge Mateo and Mauricio Dubon, the Braves have cobbled together a decent-enough bulwark at shortstop to make up for Ha-Seong Kim’s disappearing act,” the ESPN journalist added. 

Abrams is tearing the cover off the ball with the Washington Nationals. 

In 90 games, he’s already tied a career high with 20 home runs. Plus, his .276 batting average and 140 OPS+ would easily be personal bests.

Abrams’ defense is still shaky, but the Braves could live with it if he keeps up the offensive production. 

“Still, with Tate Southisene and Alex Lodise still in A ball, there are no long-term solutions in the offing, and at some point Atlanta will do what it takes to ensure that revolving door gets locked,” Passan added. 

Abrams can be the long-term solution the Braves need at shortstop.
