Braves Need To Trade For Red Sox's All-Star Snub With 2.61 ERA

The Atlanta Braves have been one of the best teams in baseball this season, but that does not mean they don’t have holes on their roster.

The Braves rotation could use another reliable arm to ensure a deep postseason run. Chris Sale is an ace and has a 2.27 ERA, but outside of him, the Braves don’t have a true elite starter. Spencer Strider is not the pitcher he once was and is on the injured list again. Martín Pérez and Grant Holmes have been solid, but may not be the most reliable options in a postseason series. Sonny Gray could be the ideal No. 2 starter for the Braves.

The Boston Red Sox do not look to be heading toward buying at the trade deadline, and Gray is a clear trade chip. He has a $30 million mutual option for next season. He has a 2.61 ERA on the season and probably should have been an All-Star.

Gray has pitched in the big leagues for 14 seasons and will turn 36 next year. Knowing he will likely be a free agent in the offseason, the Red Sox could look to get something out of him. The Braves are thinking about a World Series berth, and adding Gray is a move that will help them get there.

Gray does not put up crazy strikeout numbers, but the Braves have a great defense to play behind him. Their offense is certainly good enough to make a run, but they will need to be able to pitch well in October. Right now, Sale is the only player who can be relied on in a big game.
