Boston Celtics big man alum and three-time Chicago Bulls NBA champion Stacey King passed away on Sunday, June 7, per an announcement made by the Bulls. He was 59. King, who was with the Celtics for a cup of coffee in 1997 in between stints with the Miami Heat and Dallas Mavericks in the latter hears of his eight-season career in the league, had made a name for himself after retiring from the game as a player as a broadcaster primarily covering the team he won titles with.
Bulls owner Jerry Reinsdorf said in a statement circulated on social media that said “Stacey King was a cherished member of the Bulls family and one of the truly unique personalities in our organization’s history.”
“His connection to Chicago, the Bulls and our fans spanned more than three decades – first as a player and later as the unmistakable voice that helped bring Bulls basketball into the homes of generations of fans,” Reinsdorf continued.
“We will miss him deeply and remember the joy, energy, humor, candor, and passion he brought to our organization, our broadcasts, and our fans every day,” the statement added. “Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones.”
The former No. 6 overall pick of the 1989 draft logged 2.4 points and 1.8 rebounds per game in a reserve role in his time with Boston. Rest in Peace.
