Boston Celtics rookies Chris Cenac Jr., Dillon Mitchell get first introduction to city, fans

The Boston Celtics’ 2026 draft picks, Chris Cenac Jr. and Dillon Mitchell, along with Celtics legend Dana Barros, the team’s mascot “Lucky” the Leprechaun, and local youth, participated in an immersive introduction of Boston’s two new rookies to the city on Wednesday, July 2, per a release circulated by the team. This guided tour, led by Live Like a Local, showcased iconic Boston landmarks and celebrated the rich history of the Celtics. The youth participants were chosen for their dedication and exemplary sportsmanship.

The event served as a special welcome for the Celtics’ newest players, providing them with their initial opportunity to connect with the Boston community. They visited several important locations, including Slade’s, the iconic restaurant formerly owned by Bill Russell; the historic Tobin Community Center gym, where the Celtics practiced; and the Reggie Lewis Center. This experience offered the rookies valuable insights into Boston’s culture, the franchise’s legacy, and the communities that have contributed to the Celtics’ history.

“We have had a long-standing tradition of facilitating a community event for our rookies on their first day in Boston,” Dave Hoffman, Boston Celtics Sr. Vice President, Community Engagement, said. “In addition to the impact on the youth involved, we hope that it signals to our newest players that we can have as much of an impact off the court as on it and that’s part of what being a Celtic is all about.”

“Boston has been nice and very welcoming,” offered Cenac of the event. “The fans and community have shown a lot of love already, so I am happy to be here.”

“Seeing some of the history – the murals and different artwork – and learning about the culture of Boston was one of my favorite parts of today,” suggested Mitchell.
