Bob Iger expected to be more involved with Lakers than Josh Kushner

There are many questions surrounding the impending sale of Mark Walter’s majority share of the Los Angeles Lakers to Josh Kushner and Bob Iger. Some of those questions concern how the franchise will be run, and what specifically Kushner and Iger will focus on individually as incoming co-owners.

Kushner, the founder of venture capital firm Thrive Capital and health insurance company Oscar Health, has served as a minority owner of the Memphis Grizzlies and Miami Heat. Iger had a long stint at the Walt Disney Company and twice served as its CEO while helping to increase its market capitalization more than fourfold.

Per Khobi Price of the California Post, Iger will apparently be more involved with the Lakers than Kushner, according to a source.

“But one thing that became apparent in the immediate aftermath of the pending sale: Iger will be the one most actively involved with the Lakers once the sale becomes official, a source told the California Post.”

Walter officially purchased his majority share this past October from the Buss family, which had owned the team since 1979. During his brief tenure as majority owner, the team underwent changes in its front office, which included the hiring of numerous people to handle specific roles on both the basketball and business side of operations.

The sale of his stake to Kushner and Iger is pending approval from the league’s board of governors, which is expected to take several weeks. The NBA board of governors’ next meeting is scheduled to take place in September.
