Bill Simmons does not think the NBA world will be waiting until draft night for a Giannis Antetokounmpo blockbuster.
On the June 8, 2026 episode of The Bill Simmons Podcast, the veteran analyst predicted that if the Milwaukee Bucks decides to move its franchise superstar, the deal could arrive much sooner than most expect. More specifically, Simmons pointed to the narrow window between Game 4 and Game 5 of the NBA Finals as a potential sweet spot for a league-shaking announcement.
Trade speculation around Antetokounmpo has followed the Bucks for months; however, Simmons sounded far more convinced that something could happen in the near future rather than later in the offseason.
“I feel like there’s gonna be a big trade soon. Like Giannis, I don’t think that gets super close to the draft. My guess is if there’s a big trade, it’d probably be after game 4 before game 5. I think the league likes to clear out the first 4 games of the finals and it’s kind of a wink wink with the teams.
I feel like if there’s a big trade it’s closer to the end of this week. MIL having the chance to get 10, and 13, not to mention the other Miami guys, that’s not bad in this draft.”

The Miami Heat remains at the center of that conversation. The Heat have repeatedly surfaced as the most aggressive team linked to Antetokounmpo. Unlike previous superstar pursuits that never materialized, the Heat appears to possess both the motivation and the collection of assets necessary to make Milwaukee listen.
Several reported trade frameworks have centered around Tyler Herro, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kel’el Ware, multiple first-round selections, and crucially, the Heat No. 10 and No. 13 picks in this year’s draft. For the Bucks organization, potentially facing a full-scale reset, those lottery selections could become the foundation of any deal.
The discussion has gained additional traction because other rumored destinations have cooled considerably. The Knicks are three wins away from a championship and do not appear desperate for another seismic roster move. Meanwhile, recent reporting and league chatter have continued to cast doubt on a realistic path between Antetokounmpo and the Warriors.
That leaves the Heat in a familiar position. The Heat have spent years chasing the next superstar to pair with their culture-driven roster. This time, league insiders and media figures continue pointing in the same direction.
Simmons is not reporting that a trade is done, far from it. However, his prediction reflects a growing belief around the league that if Antetokounmpo’s the Bucks chapter is ending, the wait for clarity may not last much longer, with Game 4 of the Finals approaching, one of the biggest offseason stories could be preparing to break before the championship series is even finished.
