Big 12 Hits UCF With $100,000 Fine Over Offensive Fan Chants in BYU Matchup

UCF pulled off a massive overtime win against No. 2 BYU, but UCF has suffered a tough decision against them from the Big 12. UCF celebrated but used chants that was not taken well by the conference.

The Big 12 acted fast and let UCF taste the consequences of the misconduct by their fans.

UCF counts massive fines from Big 12

On October 24, 2026, UCF hosted then-ranked No. 2 BYU in a Big 12 football game at Acrisure Bounce House in Orlando. The Knights staged a major upset, winning 39-31 in overtime. During the game, groups of UCF fans—particularly in the student section repeatedly chanted vulgar anti-LDS slogans. “F*** the Mormons,” that’s the chant that got UCF in trouble.

Four days later, the Big 12 Conference fined UCF $100,000 for the discriminatory conduct. The money is designated for student education initiatives. At the same time, the league introduced a stricter policy.

A first confirmed incident now carries an automatic $100,000 fine, and a second incident in the same game can trigger an in-game competitive penalty such as a 15-yard unsportsmanlike-conduct foul plus possible additional fines.

The issue is treated as serious because it goes beyond typical sports trash talk. The chants targeted the religious identity of BYU, which is owned and operated by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Stadium officials issued multiple warnings over the public-address system and removed some fans, but the chants continued.

Similar anti-LDS chants have occurred at multiple Big 12 venues in recent seasons, leading to previous fines against other schools.

It’s a great win for Oklahoma State University. Their fans should be proud. But it would be great if some class was in there as well.” Young said.

The Big 12 investigated and, a few days later, fined Oklahoma State $50,000. The school accepted the penalty without appeal.
