Science fiction stories have always resonated with audiences, and that has proven to be true on streaming over the years. It’s not uncommon for the Avatar franchise to dominate Disney+, while Netflix delivered a massive sci-fi hit in 2026 with Alan Ritchson’s War Machine. The ability of these films to transport viewers to a new world is unmatched and why people keep coming back to the genre.

But as a new month begins, streaming services refresh the titles that they have available to subscribers. Some movies jump from one streamer to the next, while others vanish for a time before making a grand return and seeing a spike in interest. In any case, there is a wealth of new movies hitting the different streaming services. So much so that it can be difficult to figure out what sci-fi movie to check out and when and where it is available.

While there are dozens of sci-fi movies going to streamers in November 2026, such as Roland Emmerich’s The Day After Tomorrow on Netflix, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom on HBO Max, or Jason Statham’s The Meg on Hulu, they aren’t quite the best the genre has to offer. The following sci-fi movies are, though.

Rian Johnson’s time-travel sci-fi film Looper is one of the headliners among what’s releasing on Netflix in November 2026. Released in 2012, the film stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Bruce Willis, Emily Blunt, Piper Perabo, Paul Dano, Jeff Daniels, and Pierce Gagnon. The story follows Joe, a contract killer who fails to his older self and becomes wrapped up in his older self’s plot to kill a telekinetic child.

Looper is a masterpiece in time travel storytelling, directed to perfection by Johnson and features several great performances and a thrilling story. The movie has a stellar 93% on Rotten Tomatoes and is considered one of the best films of 2012.

WarGames, an influential sci-fi classic, is one of the biggest movies releasing on Prime Video in November 2026. Released in 1983, the sci-fi thriller focuses on a teenager who hacks his way into a military supercomputer and risks starting World War III. Matthew Broderick plays the lead role of David Lightman, with Dabney Coleman, Ally Sheedy, and John Wood (voicing the supercomputer WOPR) as part of the cast.

Over 40 years later, WarGames remains a pivotal entry in the sci-fi genre. It’s a tense, tech-focused thriller with great performances. WarGames boasts an impressive 94% on Rotten Tomatoes, while it was nominated for three Oscars for its cinematography, sound, and writing.

The Alien movies are practically always on streaming, but the franchise’s best movie, Aliens, has a new home in November as it moves to Hulu. James Cameron’s 1986 sequel to Ridley Scott’s sci-fi classic brings Sigourney Weaver back as Ellen Ripley as she tries to survive another xenomorph-filled location. The ensemble cast includes Michael Biehn, Paul Reiser, Lance Henriksen, Carrie Henn, Bill Paxton, and more.

Aliens upped the ante on the action front while maintaining the horror aspects of the original film. Its stunning practical and special effects, brilliant story, faster pace, action-packed set pieces, and Weaver’s commanding central performance make this stand the test of time. Aliens‘ excellence is why it holds a 93% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Sci-fi fans can go straight to Tubi to watch Ex Machina for free starting in November. The 2014 sci-fi thriller hails from writer/director Alex Garland and is centered around Domhnall Gleeson, Alicia Vikander, and Oscar Isaac. Ex Machina tells the story of Gleeson’s Caleb as he becomes the key to testing whether Vikander’s Ava is more than a standard robot with artificial intelligence.

With a brilliantly crafted screenplay built around heavy themes and a twisty plot, Ex Machina is an extremely engaging piece of sci-fi cinema featuring incredible visual effects. Garland leaves viewers questioning reality and what it really means to be human at every turn, while Gleeson, Vikander, and Isaac deliver powerful performances. It’s no surprise Ex Machina holds a 92% on Rotten Tomatoes and won an Oscar.

Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes

Matt Reeves brought the Planet of the Apes franchise back to its groundbreaking status in 2014 with Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. The second installment in the modern reboot keeps the focus on Andy Serkis’ Caesar, but it also stars Jason Clarke, Gary Oldman, Keri Russell, and Kodi Smit-McPhee as new humans and Toby Kebbell as the menacing ape Koba, who battles Caesar for control over the future of apes and their relationship with humans.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is a perfect modern sci-fi blockbuster, featuring stunning visual effects and impressive action. It also remains an incredible display of motion and performance capture technology, with Serkis’ talents really coming through. The epic sci-fi movie with a 91% on Rotten Tomatoes is a must-watch.

For those who really like it, HBO Max’s November 2026 releases thankfully include its predecessor, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, its sequel, War for the Planet of the Apes, and Disney’s continuation, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire

    &lt;<img src="https://static0.srcdn.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/josh-hutcherson-and-jennifer-lawrence-in-hunger-games-catching-fire.jpg?q=49&fit=crop&w=825&dpr=2" />
    </figure>

With The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping releasing on November 20, there is no better time to check out or rewatch the previous movies, with The Hunger Games: Catching Fire remaining the franchise’s magnum opus. The 2013 sequel directed by Francis Lawrence continued Katniss and Peeta’s adventures in the arena for a bigger, more emotional, and more action-packed installment.

Jennifer Lawrence is great once again in the lead role, while Sam Claflin, Jeffrey Wright, Philip Seymour Hoffman, and Jena Malone are among the best new additions. Catching Fire is a blockbuster done right, which is why it has a 90% on Rotten Tomatoes.

In addition to Catching Fire, every Hunger Games movie is part of Peacock’s November 2026 releases, giving subscribers plenty of dystopian YA adventures to watch throughout the month.

Mickey 17

    &lt;<img src="https://static0.srcdn.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/mickey-17_.jpg?q=49&fit=crop&w=825&dpr=2" />
    </figure>

Fresh off making 2019’s masterpiece Parasite, director Bong Joon-ho took his talents to sci-fi for 2025’s Mickey 17. The film stars Robert Pattinson as Mickey Barnes, a man who signs up to explore different planets looking for a new human home, and is cloned each time he dies. The cast includes Naomi Ackie, Steven Yeun, Toni Collette, Mark Ruffalo, and Anamaria Vartolomei.

Mickey 17 is wildly underrated but a wonderfully weird, funny, and great sci-fi movie. Pattinson is terrific playing multiple versions of Mickey, making this a great showcase of his abilities. Bong mixes the levity and darkness really well, while allowing the social commentary to come through without being too heavy-handed. Don’t let the 77% Rotten Tomatoes score stop you from watching one of the best recent sci-fi movies on streaming in November.
