Ben Johnson reacts to Bears TE Cole Kmet's knee injury

The Chicago Bears got a big win over the New England Patriots on Thursday Night Football, but it didn’t come without a cost as tight end Cole Kmet exited the game with an injury.

Kmet suffered a knee injury midway through the fourth quarter after hauling in an 8-yard pass on the team’s penultimate possession. Kmet was carted off the field but gave a thumbs up to the Soldier Field crowd as he was taken to the locker room. Still, it wasn’t an encouraging sign for one of the Bears‘ fan-favorite players and underrated contributors on offense.

After the game, head coach Ben Johnson sounded off on Kmet’s injury, noting that the team is still in the information gathering phase. But he also shared his initial reaction.

“We will know more tomorrow but I don’t think it looked very good,” Johnson said.

Kmet has been a crucial part of the Bears’ offense, even though it’s come less as a pass catcher and more as a blocker. In Thursday’s win over the Patriots, Kmet caught three passes for 28 yards, but he also played a key role as a blocker.

Quarterback Caleb Williams also shared his thoughts on Kmet, who’s been one of his favorite targets since he was drafted by Chicago in 2024.

“I don’t have the words to describe what Cole is to me, what Cole is to this team, this organization,” Williams said

Williams knows all too well that getting carted off the field means he’s going to miss some time. But the hope is that Kmet’s injury isn’t as serious as initially suspected. Regardless, it’s a brutal blow for this Bears offense. Although, it will open up more opportunities for rookie Sam Roush behind Colston Loveland.
