Ángel Torres to Bordalás: He's got some nerve, if he wants to leave

Ángel Torres has responded to José Bordalás following his scathing remarks after Getafe’s Conference League match against Lugano.

The coach complained about his squad in the post-match press conference and lashed out at the board: “Today proved that I can’t give my players a rest. Everyone noticed that I didn’t make any substitutions. I don’t deserve this, I feel deceived because the promises made to me year after year haven’t been kept, and I’m angry. I love Getafe, and this is very painful.”

It is hard to remember an outburst as explosive as the coach’s after the Lugano match.

In response, club president Ángel Torres told Cadena SER:

“We have one of the best squads we’ve ever had. He signed because he wanted to. The door is open if he wants to leave. This is Getafe. What I don’t understand is what he’s doing here if he’s unhappy. But to say that I’ve deceived him—you’ve got to have some nerve to say that to me after 30 years. What he needs to do is respect the players the way they respect him.”

The long-simmering conflict between Getafe’s president and coach has now erupted into open warfare.
