Bayern Munich News: Max Eberl discusses nine-figure transfer sums

The summer transfer window, like many in recent years, saw high-profile transfers across top teams that carried hefty price tags, often reaching above the nine-figure mark. Enzo Fernández and Bradley Barcola both moved to the Premier League this summer for €145 million and €125 million respectively. Bayern Munich’s window was relatively low-profile in comparison, as the Rekordmeister picked up Ismael Saibari and Nathaniel Brown for €50 million a piece.

When asked whether Bayern Munich has such spending power, sporting director Max Eberl emphasised the club’s strength in the transfer market and reassured fans that Bayern too can spend just as much.

“Bayern Munich are a strong club; they demonstrated that when they signed Harry Kane. If we want to and are convinced that it’s the right move, FC Bayern are capable of making major transfers as well. However, we want to do that with foresight,” said Eberl (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). He continued, describing the club’s current approach: “Our strategy in recent years has been to bring in players who give us the chance to win the Champions League, the Bundesliga and the DFB-Pokal. At the same time, we want to integrate young players from our academy who can grow alongside us.”

Eberl is right in ensuring a player is the right fit for the club before spending huge sums of money, and it is something Bayern has done exceptionally well. Nonetheless, fans would certainly appreciate more transfers.
