Bauchi bye-election: Shehu Buba warns against hate campaigns

As Bauchi bye-elections holds today, Senator Shehu Buba Umar has urged political parties and their supporters to avoid inflammatory statements, intimidation and violence as voters in Disina and Sakwa constituencies prepare to elect new members of the Bauchi State House of Assembly.

The Peoples Redemption Party governorship candidate for the 2027 election made the appeal during the party’s campaign rallies in Disina, Shira Local Government Area, and Sakwa, Zaki LGA.

Shehu Buba said politicians should focus their campaigns on issues that affect the people instead of turning political differences into personal attacks.

“Political competition should be about ideas, policies, leadership qualities and service to the people, not personal attacks or inflammatory rhetoric,” he said.

The senator also expressed concern over the language used by some political actors, saying leaders should be mindful of the influence their words could have on young people.

He urged politicians to disagree without creating tension or encouraging their supporters to engage in violence.

In Disina, Shehu Buba was joined by former House of Representatives member, Abubakar Kani Faggo, and the PRP candidate for Shira State Constituency, Mohammed Samaila Isah.

During the visits, he asked the traditional rulers to help promote peaceful participation in the election, particularly among youths.

“Our youths must reject thuggery, violence and intimidation. They should be encouraged to participate in the democratic process peacefully,” Shehu Buba said.
