Spanish paper Mundo Deportivo are reporting on Chelsea interest in Barcelona defender Jules Kounde.
It’s a link that’s been around for a long time – back in 2022, the Blues came close to signing the then Sevilla star before Barca swooped in to steal him away. It was a €50m deal in the end,
Kounde extended his contract in the summer of 2025, and it now runs until 2030.
Jules Kounde could leave Barcelona this winter as club look to cash in
Kounde has been a very important player for years at Barcelona, and has also been a regular for France. New manager Zinedine Zidane just named him his fourth captain in the squad. But he’s gradually falling out of favour at the Nou Camp, and that’s leading his club to conclude it’s best to sell him while his stock is high. And even with France, despite Zidane’s captaincy call, he seems to have lost his place to Pierre Kalulu, who has started two of the three games in this break.
Despite a waning star, Barcelona will have no shortage of takers for Kounde. Whether or not Chelsea’s interest is actually real, a 27 year old versatile defender with tons of experience at the very top level is always going to be in demand. We can see Kounde moving to any number of teams in the Premier League. January might be a stretch – but given Chelsea’s dreadful start to the season defensively, there could well be a sense of panic that accelerates things significantly.
