The transfer team at La Liga giants Barcelona could yet reignite efforts to bring youngster Ruud Nijstad to the club during the winter transfer window. This comes after the Blaugrana’s recent pursuit of the Dutchman came up short.
Deco and the Camp Nou transfer team spent the final days of the recently-completed summer window working to add a new central defender to Hansi Flick’s squad.
After Ronald Araújo’s surprise exit was followed in turn by that of highly-regarded starlet Álvaro Cortés, the Blaugrana were widely expected to bring in fresh blood at the heart of defence.
The aforementioned Ruud Nijstad was earmarked as a leading option on the part of Deco and co, with the 18-year-old considered a potential future star in the making.
And though a deal for the Dutch youth international ultimately failed to come to fruition, Barcelona could yet return to the negotiating table following the turn of the year.
As per a report from Mundo Deportivo, the Spanish champions are continuing to keep an eye on Nijstad’s situation at FC Twente with a view to the January window.
