Barcelona agrees Xavi Espart contract extension until June 2030

Barcelona has agreed a new contract with Xavi Espart until June 2030, according to Fabrizio Romano. The 19-year-old is set to receive a pay rise after breaking into Hansi Flick’s first team and earning a starting role at left-back this season.

Espart’s existing contract, announced in August 2025, runs until June 2028. That agreement was drawn up around a final year of youth football followed by two seasons with Barça Atlètic. The reported extension would add two years as his senior career develops much faster than that timetable suggested.

Barcelona promoted Espart to its first-team squad on August 27 and handed him the No. 12 shirt following a strong preseason and an impressive league performance against Elche.

His senior debut came against Newcastle United in March, when Flick sent him on for Ronald Araújo late in the Champions League last-16 first leg. Barcelona was chasing an equalizer at St. James’ Park and eventually secured a 1-1 draw through Lamine Yamal’s penalty.

Espart has since added his first senior goal, opening the scoring in Barcelona’s 4-2 victory at Levante on September 13. It arrived in his 11th competitive appearance for the first team, another sign of how quickly he has moved beyond occasional opportunities from the bench.

His positional range gives Flick another reason to keep using him. Espart developed as a midfielder before playing more regularly at right-back in the academy, and he has started this campaign on the opposite side of the defense. That experience offers cover in several positions as the coach manages his squad.

Contract work is continuing elsewhere in Barcelona’s squad. Deco discussed new deals for Espart, Marc Bernal and Raphinha at the club’s general assembly on September 19. The sporting director has also confirmed that Raphinha has agreed fresh terms.

Terms are reported to be settled with Espart’s representatives, with Barcelona’s announcement still to follow. The salary increase has not been quantified, and Romano’s report gives no details of a release clause.
