Bago Pledges To Sustain Women’s Representation In Governance

Niger State Governor, Umaru Bago, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to promoting women’s inclusion in governance and decision-making, assuring that qualified women will continue to play key roles in the affairs of the state.

Niger State Governor Umaru Bago has pledged to strengthen women’s representation in governance, assuring that his administration will continue to appoint qualified women to strategic leadership and decision-making positions across the state.

Bago gave the assurance while receiving members of the Zone C Women Stakeholders Platform on a courtesy visit at the Government House in Minna.

The governor acknowledged the critical role women have played in his political journey, describing them as the backbone of his electoral success.

According to him, over one million registered female members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Zone C represent a formidable political force that cannot be overlooked.

Despite the security challenges confronting parts of Zone C, he commended the women for their unwavering support and sustained commitment to the APC.

The governor urged them to continue mobilising support for the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu and the New Niger Agenda of his administration, stressing that their participation remains vital to the party’s success and the state’s development.

Bago described the Zone C Women Stakeholders Platform as a trailblazing initiative that has set a standard for women in other zones to emulate by uniting to advance the objectives of the APC and promote inclusive governance.

He also expressed satisfaction with the organisation and unity demonstrated by the group, revealing that many of its members would be considered for appointments whenever the government fills existing vacant positions.

On security, the governor assured the delegation that his administration is intensifying efforts to address insecurity in Borgu and other affected parts of the state to guarantee lasting peace and safety for residents.

Earlier, the Convener of the Zone C Women Stakeholders Platform, Hauwa Kontagora, commended Bago for his consistent support for women and his efforts toward expanding their participation in governance.

She said the platform comprises former and serving commissioners, special advisers, directors-general, executive directors, vice chairpersons, local government women leaders and other stakeholders committed to mobilising women for active participation in governance and development.

According to her, the group was established to amplify the voices of women, promote their inclusion in leadership and decision-making, and support policies that enhance women’s empowerment and economic participation across Niger State.

Kontagora appealed for greater inclusion of women in leadership positions and development initiatives, while reaffirming the group’s commitment to partnering with the Bago administration to build a stronger and more prosperous Niger State.

In separate remarks, former Commissioner for Education, Fatima Madugu, and former Commissioner for Women Affairs, Hassana Adamu, pledged to mobilise support for President Tinubu and other APC candidates in future elections, expressing confidence in the party’s leadership and development agenda.
