Army deploys 6 Brigade to tackle emerging security threats in Taraba

The 6 Brigade/Sector 3, Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), has commenced operations in Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State, following its relocation from Jalingo.

The relocation, approved by the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), followed the establishment of the 10 Division Nigerian Army Headquarters in Jalingo and is aimed at strengthening the Army’s operational presence and improving the fight against insecurity across the state.

The Brigade Commander, Brigadier General Chukwuemeka Michael Akaliro, gave the assurance on Tuesday as the formation formally began operations from its new location.

According to a statement issued by the Brigade’s acting Assistant Director, Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, Akaliro said the relocation would not change the mandate of the Brigade.

He said the formation would consolidate its existing operational gains while intensifying efforts to address emerging security challenges within its area of responsibility.

Akaliro disclosed that the Brigade would employ a combination of kinetic and non-kinetic approaches in its operations, while charging officers and soldiers to remain disciplined, professional and committed to their constitutional responsibilities.

He also emphasised the importance of cooperation with relevant stakeholders and local communities in sustaining peace and security across Taraba.

“The mandate and goals of the Brigade remain the same, despite the change in location. We will continue to do everything within our capacity to protect the people and their property and ensure that the peace being enjoyed in Taraba State is sustained,” he said.

As part of activities marking the commencement of operations in Wukari, Akaliro paid a courtesy visit to the Aku-Uka of Wukari and Chairman of the Taraba State Council of Chiefs and Emirs, Dr Ishaku Adda Ali.

The Brigade Commander expressed appreciation to the monarch and people of Wukari for the warm reception and support accorded the formation since its relocation.

Responding, the Aku-Uka assured the Brigade of the continued support and cooperation of the people of Wukari.

He said the traditional institution and residents would work closely with the military to enable it to effectively discharge its constitutional responsibilities.

To demonstrate its operational readiness and reassure residents of its commitment to their safety, personnel of the Brigade also conducted a route march through Wukari and adjoining areas.

The commencement of operations in Wukari, as gathered by DAILY POST, is expected to further strengthen the Brigade’s presence in the area as it continues efforts to maintain peace and tackle security threats across Taraba State.
