Are we all sleeping on Oregon?
This is still the uber-talented team that became a fashionable offseason pick to win the national title, but this has hardly gone according to plan, with losses to Oklahoma State and UCLA. But it’s still Oregon. It could rip off six straight wins and end up right where it’s supposed to be.
Or, it’s missing that one key thing – cough … current Kentucky head coach and former Duck offensive coordinator Will Stein … cough – that made it special over the last few years.
Illinois would love to have Oregon’s problems. It’s a shadow of its recent self, but it got out of East Lansing with an overtime win, it’s had two weeks to rest up, and it’s overdue to make a bit of a statement.

Why Oregon Will Win
Star quarterback Dante Moore still isn’t able to go, but Dylan Raiola is strong enough to hold his own. He had a rough day against Nebraska, but when it was time to come up large, he did.
The Illinois defense is a mere rumor. It’s awful at generating big stops – the two-point conversion against Michigan State aside – with no pass rush and no ability to take the ball away. Basically, Dylan, let it rip.
Why Illinois Will Win
Oregon is just sort of flat.
It’s trying desperately hard to find a spark, and the defense has been wonderful, but the team doesn’t have it. Scoring has been a chore, and the defense has to carry too much of the load.
For an Illinois team that could desperately use a little help from the other side, it’s playing a team that turned it over nine times in the last two games.
Oregon vs Illinois Prediction, Betting Lines
Illinois will come out fired up, and it’ll effort its way into a good first half, but the Oregon defense will do its job time and again, holding the Illini to field goals instead of touchdowns.
In case you were wondering, Raiola played against Illinois as a freshman at Nebraska, throwing for close to 300 yards with three touchdowns and an interception in a loss to the Illini. He’ll have better luck this time around.
