Appleton-area high school sports results for Friday, Sept. 4

KIMBERLY – Muhammad Jobe ran for 221 yards on 27 carries and scored both touchdowns for the Ghosts in the victory over the Papermakers in the inaugural Battle for the Paddle game.

Kaukauna improves to 2-1 overall and is 1-0 in the Fox Valley Association. Kimberly falls to 0-3 overall and 0-1 in the FVA.

Jobe scored on a 71-yard run in the second quarter and Ryan Mayer’s extra point kick gave the Ghosts a 7-0 lead with 4:46 remaining in the first half.

Jobe scored on a 5-yard run with 11:18 remaining in the fourth quarter and Mayer’s PAT made it 14-0.

Kimberly quickly cut the deficit in half when Lucas Csida took a short toss from quarterback Rylan Welch and scored from 8 yards out. Maddux Hermus kicked the extra point and it was 14-7 with 6:18 remaining in the game.

The Papermakers would never get another chance to touch the ball.

Kaukauna took over after a touchback and marched the ball downfield to run off the rest of the time on the clock, with quarterback Ryan Carrel running for 8 yards to convert a first down on third-and-1 and then Jobe ran for seven yards to convert the final first down before time ran out.

Kimberly falls to 0-3 for the first time since the 2003 season, when it finished 0-9.

APPLETON – Brock Struensee rushed for 112 yards and two touchdowns on 32 carries to lead the Lightning to the win over the Polar Bears.

Owen Rein completed four passes for 106 yards and a touchdown for Appleton North.

AJ Pheifer led Hortonville with 289 yards passing on 15 completions in 27 attempts. Greyson Rankin caught six of Pheifer’s passes for 147 yards.

APPLETON – Isaac Ise’s 80-yard kickoff return for a touchdown proved to be the difference in Appleton West’s victory over the visiting Trojans in a Fox River Classic North opener.

The Terrors are 3-0 for the first time since 2004. West finished 8-3 overall that year and 7-2 in the Fox Valley Association.

Charlie Blevins had a 9-yard touchdown run and Connor Navis added a 1-yard scoring plunge to complete the scoring for the Terrors.

LITTLE CHUTE – Mason Schneider’s 37-yard interception return in the fourth quarter put the game out of reach as the Mustangs improved to 3-0 on the season and 1-0 in the North Eastern Conference.

Schneider had two interceptions on the night, with his second for the touchdown with 2:10 remaining in the fourth quarter.

Wrightstown bottled up Little Chute standout running back Reece Joten, holding him to 13 carries for 47 yards, but the Mustangs got big plays from quarterback Jaden Hermsen and wingback Tyler Hietpas.

Hermsen scored on runs of 53 and 4 yards and also had a pair of 2-point conversions. Hietpas raced 69 yards for another score.

Alex Van Helvoirt had an 80-yard kick return for a touchdown with Claxton Lasecki scoring from 15 yards out to cap the scoring for Wrightstown (1-2, 0-1).

APPLETON – Braden Heiges ran for two touchdowns and threw for another as the Foxes held off the Thunder in Bay Conference action.

After both teams scored touchdowns in the first quarter, it appeared FVL had taken charge with three second-quarter scores to take a 28-14 halftime advantage.

But Seymour hung tough and shut out the Foxes in the second half.

Heiges finished with 116 yards rushing and 157 passing.
