The African Democratic Congress Presidential Campaign Council, ADC-PCC, has declared that what it described as a sustained assault on democracy by the administration of President Bola Tinubu will fail, accusing the government of using intimidation, attacks and financial inducements to weaken opposition parties.
The council made the allegation in a statement signed by its Director of Media and Publicity, Kola Ologbondiyan, while condemning what it described as coordinated attempts to restrict political participation and silence opposition voices.
It cited reported attacks on ADC leaders and members in Kaduna, the alleged assault on its Sokoto governorship candidate, Alhaji Munir Dan Iya, by Sokoto Marshals along Airport Road, and the reported demolition of its campaign office in Kebbi State.
The council also alleged that NDC presidential candidate Peter Obi was denied a campaign venue in Enugu.
It further raised concerns over reported attacks on AAC presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore and other opposition figures.
On alleged attempts to weaken opposition ranks through financial inducements, the ADC-PCC said: “President Tinubu is at liberty to corruptly buy a few consciences with money and material inducements. Millions of Naira are being offered to weak individuals to mortgage their rights, but not all Nigerians are for sale.”
The council also condemned the continued detention of ADC vice chairman and former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, alleging that he was being unlawfully detained and denied bail.
“The world is watching, and the burden of this illegality rests squarely on those responsible,” the statement said.
Calling on Nigerians to defend democratic values, the council maintained that the alleged actions would not stop its political activities.
“The ADC has come to rescue this country. This too shall pass. Nigeria will endure and democracy will prevail,” it declared.
