Amid a wave of complaints from users, cryptocurrency platform Binance, at the weekend, provided an update on the $6.3 billion worth of cryptocurrency stolen in a historic hack following remarks by United States President Donald Trump.
In a statement on X on Saturday, Binance said it had used the company’s funds to purchase tokens to replenish 90 per cent of the stolen assets.
Binance explained that the remaining 10 per cent of the tokens were “less liquid, which means they may take longer to source in the required amounts.”
“Our commitment remains the same: Binance will fully cover the financial impact of the funds stolen in this incident,” the company said on X.
Binance linked the attack to North Korea, as prices of most major cryptocurrencies fell following news of the cyberattack.
Following the attack, Binance suspended user withdrawals but said in its latest update that withdrawals were on track to resume on Sunday.
Binance’s latest update comes after President Donald Trump said on Friday that the United States was looking into the hack.
The FBI also said it was “engaged with relevant public and private partners to understand the scope of the activity” and was ready to investigate.
