Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has challenged Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration to provide evidence supporting claims that security drones purchased under the previous government have gone missing.
The opposition party said allegations that five drones acquired during the administration of former governor Adegboyega Oyetola could not be located were unfounded and should be substantiated with official records.
The controversy followed a statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, who disclosed that the Adeleke administration was unable to trace five security drones reportedly paid for during the previous administration.
He also stated that the government was considering procuring new drones to strengthen security operations across the state.
Responding to the allegation, Osun APC spokesperson Kola Olabisi said the party rejected the claims and urged residents not to be misled by what it described as inaccurate information.
According to Olabisi, “the Adeleke administration should focus on addressing current security challenges rather than attributing its difficulties to decisions allegedly taken by a former government.”
He maintained that former governor Oyetola did not purchase any drones during his four-year tenure and challenged the state government to produce documentary evidence if such acquisitions were indeed made.
“The members of the public should discountenance this Governor Adeleke’s blatant lie about the purchase of the drones by former Governor Oyetola being peddled by him in order to misinform the unsuspecting members of the public to score a cheap political point,” Olabisi said.
The APC spokesman criticised the governor’s handling of the matter, arguing that repeated references to the previous administration were unnecessary after more than three years in office.
“It was our belief that the embattled Governor Adeleke would put an end to the running of his administration with lies and subterfuge towards the tail end of his administration that is winding up in November this year, but unfolding events have shown that it is pretty impossible for a leopard to change its colour,” he added.
Olabisi also called on residents to hold the current administration accountable for maintaining security across the state, stressing that responsibility for safeguarding lives and property rests with the government in power.
