Anthony Rizzo sees Pat Murphy’s trust in his players paying off as the Milwaukee Brewers hold a 3-0 NLCS lead over the Los Angeles Dodgers following Wednesday’s 6-2 Game 3 victory.
The Ross and Rizzo Unfiltered podcast shared Rizzo’s assessment of the Brewers skipper as Milwaukee moved to the brink of the World Series. In the clip posted Thursday on X, formerly Twitter, the former Chicago Cubs first baseman praised Murphy for sticking with the players who helped Milwaukee reach this point, highlighting Jake Bauers’ place at first base with Andrew Vaughn available.
“What I love about what Pat Murphy‘s doing, he’s playing his guys. Andrew Vaughn could have been playing first base for Jake Bauers there,” Rizzo said, adding, “He’s playing his guys that got him here. He’s not going off the left-right matchups for the most part. He’s playing his guys, and it’s paying off big time.”

Bauers delivered a compelling example at Dodger Stadium. With Milwaukee trailing 2-1 in the seventh inning, he battled Blake Snell through an 11-pitch at-bat before launching a go-ahead two-run homer. Garrett Mitchell followed with another home run, pushing the Brewers’ lead to 4-2.
Milwaukee finished with a 6-2 win after taking the first two games at American Family Field. The result left the defending champions facing elimination and the Brewers one victory from their first World Series appearance since 1982.
The position reverses last October’s outcome, when the Dodgers swept Milwaukee in four games in the 2025 NLCS before winning the championship.
Rizzo’s assessment comes from a longtime major league first baseman who won the 2016 World Series alongside David Ross with the Cubs. His praise centers on Murphy’s confidence in his personnel, without suggesting the manager has abandoned matchup considerations.
Entering Thursday’s Game 4, the Brewers can complete the sweep and secure their second World Series appearance. Murphy’s approach now heads into a potential pennant-clinching game, with the club needing one more victory to finish the job in L.A.
