Atlanta (25-13) defeated Los Angeles (13-25), 78-71, on Monday at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California. 10,442 were in attendance for the WNBA contest.
Atlanta forward Angel Reese set a WNBA single-game record for rebounds. She recorded 26 rebounds, breaking Chamique Holdsclaw’s record of 24 rebounds on May 23, 2003 for Washington.
Holdsclaw played at Tennessee from 1995-99 and won three national championships.
Reese finished Monday’s contest with 11 points, 26 rebounds, three assists and three steals in 38 minutes against the Sparks.
Former Lady Vol Rae Burrell did not play for Los Angeles. She was as out due to illness.
Los Angeles forward Nneka Ogwumike led all scorers with 27 points. Allisha Gray (20) and Rhyne Howard (18) were Atlanta’s leading scorers.
The Dream outrebounded Los Angeles, 48-32. Atlanta also scored 48 points in the paint to the Sparks’ 38 points in the paint.
Atlanta’s largest lead was 16 points.
