Some of Colin Farrell’s best scenes involve him trying to understand why someone doesn’t like him. In The Banshees of Inisherin, he plays Pádraic, whose best friend abruptly stops speaking to him. Pádraic keeps insisting that he’s nice, as though that should settle the matter. Farrell makes his disbelief funny, but the rejection hurts more each time he goes looking for an explanation.
After breaking through in Tigerland in 2000, Farrell was soon chasing Tom Cruise in Minority Report and leading S.W.A.T. Those studio movies made him famous, but he kept taking chances on smaller films, including The Lobster, a comedy about single people forced to find partners or become animals. Television brought longer roles in True Detective and The Penguin, giving him entire seasons to develop characters. Following Colin Farrell’s career now means having more to look forward to than another Hollywood thriller.
The next question is when those performances will arrive. Farrell’s announced movies and shows are at different stages, so confirmed release dates, casting news, and production updates help distinguish what’s coming soon from what may still be years away.

Colin Farrell will return as Gotham gangster Oz Cobb, also known as the Penguin, in The Batman Part II. Scheduled for February 18, 2028, the sequel reunites him with director Matt Reeves and Robert Pattinson, who plays Bruce Wayne and his crime-fighting alter ego, Batman. Oz was a subordinate of mob boss Carmine Falcone in the first film, but the HBO series The Penguin follows his efforts to take control after Falcone’s death leaves Gotham’s criminal organizations fighting for power.
That makes the eight-episode series useful viewing before Farrell’s next appearance. Oz spends the season manipulating rival gangs and building a drug business, eventually securing a position at the top of Gotham’s underworld. He also starts making political connections, extending his ambitions beyond the clubs and back rooms where Batman previously encountered him.
The show explains how he gains that influence and reveals what he’s willing to sacrifice to keep it. As reported by Deadline, according to Farrell, only a few weeks separate the show’s ending from the sequel, so Oz’s rise to power will still be recent when the story resumes on the big screen.
Farrell has indicated that his part will be small, saying in June 2026 that he didn’t have much to film (via USA Today). His return will offer a peak of Oz running Gotham’s underworld, though how he fits into Batman’s investigation and its specifics are still unknown. Filming resumed in October after a break while Reeves dealt with a family matter, with the February 2028 release still on the calendar (via Radio Times).

Sgt. Rock
To Be Announced

Colin Farrell entered talks to play another DC character in Sgt. Rock, although this project is considerably less certain than his return as the Penguin (via TheWrap). Sgt. Frank Rock is a World War II soldier who leads Easy Company through combat against Nazi forces. Created by Robert Kanigher and Joe Kubert, he became one of DC’s best-known military characters without needing the superpowers associated with many of its heroes.
The proposed movie initially paired Farrell with director Luca Guadagnino and screenwriter Justin Kuritzkes, whose previous collaborations include Challengers and Queer. Rock would put Farrell on the other side of a fight, leading soldiers against the Nazis rather than climbing Gotham’s criminal ranks. The film was planned for James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC Universe, which has its own continuity separate from The Batman and The Penguin. Farrell could play both roles without either character existing in the other’s world.
However, the planned summer 2025 shoot fell through, with reporting citing difficulties meeting the production schedule. Gunn subsequently said the project was still moving forward, but without Guadagnino directing (via TheWrap). Farrell sounded less certain during an October 2025 appearance on Happy Sad Confused. He praised the screenplay and recalled discussing the movie with Guadagnino, but admitted, “I have no idea where it is now.” There’s still no confirmed release date or word on whether Farrell would return if the movie gets back on track.

Bad Bridgets
To Be Announced

Bad Bridgets follows two Irish sisters whose escape to America brings them into a world of crime in nineteenth-century New York. Fleeing an abusive father, poverty, and hunger, they join other Irish women known as the Bridgets, who are causing trouble across the city. According to Netflix, Emilia Jones and Alison Oliver play the sisters, with Colin Farrell among the supporting cast. His character hasn’t been announced, so it is still unclear whether he’ll help the women, stand in their way, or get caught up in their schemes.
Writer-director Rich Peppiatt previously made Kneecap, a comedy about an Irish-language rap group whose members played themselves. Here, he has an ensemble that also includes Steve Coogan, Domhnall Gleeson, Charlie Heaton, and Himesh Patel. Farrell’s casting is one reason to follow the film, but the sisters are its leads. Their experiences give the story a different perspective from crime movies focused on men building criminal empires.
The history behind it is also pretty rich. Historians Elaine Farrell and Leanne McCormick researched Irish emigrant women’s lives and encounters with the law in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Their work became the nonfiction book Bad Bridget: Crime, Mayhem and the Lives of Irish Emigrant Women and inspired the movie. Netflix announced a summer 2026 shoot in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, with local reporting documenting filming in County Offaly this past August. A Netflix release date has not been announced.

An expensive white painting is enough to threaten a friendship in Art, an upcoming comedy starring Colin Farrell, Ralph Fiennes, and Wagner Moura (via Deadline). Serge buys the painting, Marc can’t believe he spent so much money on it, and their friend Yvan tries to keep the peace. Trying to appease both friends gets Yvan dragged into the fight. However, they’re airing grievances that have little to do with the painting.
The casting reunites Farrell and Fiennes after In Bruges, where Farrell played a guilt-stricken hitman and Fiennes was his furious boss. Their arguments were among that movie’s funniest scenes, giving this reunion plenty of promise even without guns or a criminal assignment involved. Moura, known for playing Pablo Escobar in Narcos, completes the trio. Which actor will play each friend hasn’t been announced, so it’s still unclear whether Farrell will be defending the purchase, mocking it, or regretting getting involved.
Fernando Meirelles will direct the English-language adaptation of Yasmina Reza’s play, reuniting with Farrell after Sugar and Fiennes after The Constant Gardener. Christopher Hampton wrote the screenplay, returning to material he previously translated into English for the stage. Hampton has been working with these characters since his stage translation opened in London in 1996 (via Variety). The film was announced ahead of the May 2026 Cannes market, with filming and release dates still to be confirmed.
