Despite a crash, Alexander Rossi is full speed ahead!

The IndyCar driver, who pilots the No. 20 Chevrolet for Ed Carpenter Racing (ECR), was hospitalized after he crashed during practice on Monday, May 18, but still has his sights set on racing in the Indianapolis 500 this weekend.

Rossi, 34, suffered “minor” injuries to his right ankle and a finger on his left hand, according to a post on the official ECR Instagram.

“ECR driver Alexander Rossi underwent successful outpatient procedures this evening to repair minor injuries to a finger on his left hand and his right ankle. He sustained the injuries earlier today during an on-track incident while practicing for the Indianapolis 500,” the team said.

They added that Rossi is in “good spirits” and has “no additional injuries” as a result of the crash.

“His progress will continue to be evaluated with the full intent of participating in final practice on Friday, May 22, and the 110th Running of the Indianapolis 500 on Sunday, May 24,” the team said.

Rossi will have a backup car to race, they added.

Rossi is set to start in the middle of the front row for the Indianapolis 500, which will take place at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Sunday, May 24.

When the race begins, drivers will whip around the famed 2.5-mile oval track for 200 laps totaling 500 miles, reaching speeds of more than 240 mph.

The Indy 500 promises its drivers “immortality” within the halls of IndyCar racing history if they can cross the finish line first. The annual IndyCar series race has been held since 1911.
