Alex Palou Makes History, Captures Fifth IndyCar Championship

Alex Palou has added another chapter to one of the most dominant stretches in modern IndyCar history, officially capturing his fifth NTT IndyCar Series championship.

The Chip Ganassi Racing star has established himself as the defining driver of his generation, continuing a remarkable run that has turned Palou from rising star into one of the most accomplished drivers the series has ever seen.

Five Championships and Counting

Palou’s fifth championship further strengthens a résumé that already puts him among IndyCar’s all-time greats. Since winning his first title in 2021, Palou has consistently been the standard of the series, combining outright speed with the consistency needed to remain at the front of the championship year after year.

What has separated Palou from much of the field has been his ability to maximize nearly every weekend. Even when he doesn’t have the fastest car, Palou routinely finds a way to leave with strong points. When Chip Ganassi Racing gives him a race-winning car, he rarely wastes the opportunity.

That combination has made the No. 10 team one of the toughest groups in the paddock to beat.

A Dynasty in the Making

The championship also continues an incredible stretch of success for Palou and Chip Ganassi Racing. While IndyCar features one of the deepest fields in motorsports, Palou has continued to find ways to separate himself from the competition across road courses, street circuits and ovals.

His calm approach behind the wheel has become one of his biggest strengths. Palou rarely appears rattled, avoids unnecessary mistakes and consistently puts himself in position to capitalize when other championship contenders run into trouble.

It’s a formula that has now produced five championships.

Palou’s Place Among the Greats

At this point, the conversation surrounding Palou has moved beyond whether he’s one of the best drivers currently in IndyCar. The bigger question is where he belongs among the greatest drivers in the history of American open-wheel racing.

Five championships places Palou in elite company, and he still has plenty of time to add to that total.

His career has already featured championships, dominant seasons and an Indianapolis 500 victory, giving him many of the accomplishments that define an all-time great IndyCar career.

And he may not be close to finished.
