NEW YORK – Yankees reliever Fernando Cruz is dealing with right elbow discomfort, a condition that landed him on the 15-day injured list prior to Wednesday night’s game against Houston.
Additionally, the Yankees optioned reliever Bradley Hanner to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, after he threw 25 pitches in Tuesday’s 9-7 loss to the Astros.
Veteran right-hander and former All-Star starter Michael Fulmer was signed to a big-league contract and added to the Yankees roster, with reliver Kervin Castro transferred to the 60-day IL.
Despite Cruz’s insistence Tuesday night that he felt OK physically, his velocity was down a bit in yielding two runs – including a game-tying homer – in his one inning against Houston.
Over his last 14 appearances, Cruz has been charged with eight runs and has allowed four home runs in 12 innings.
