ADC urges police, DSS to probe alleged attack on members in Kogi

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has called on the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS) and other security agencies to investigate the alleged attack on its members during a ward meeting in Ejule-Alla Ward, Ofu Local Government Area of Kogi State.

The party made the call after its members were reportedly attacked during a meeting held on Tuesday at the residence of the ward chairman.

According to the ADC, political thugs suspected to be loyal to the All Progressives Congress (APC) disrupted the gathering and allegedly injured several members.

Reacting to the incident, the party’s Zonal Chairman, Adaji John Udale, described the attack as an assault on democracy and the constitutional right of citizens to associate freely.

“We urge the Nigeria Police Force, the DSS and other security agencies to urgently investigate this incident and bring those responsible to justice,” he said.

Udale expressed concern that the incident happened in Ejule-Alla Ward, the hometown of Kogi State Deputy Governor, Comrade Salifu Oyibo, and urged authorities to ensure that political differences did not lead to violence.

“We call on Igala socio-cultural organisations and community leaders to speak against political violence and use their influence to discourage attacks on members of opposing political parties.”

According to Udale, political disagreements should be resolved through dialogue and elections rather than violence.

The party urged its members who were affected by the incident to remain calm and law-abiding, assuring them that it would continue to pursue its political activities peacefully while seeking justice.
