8-time Pro Bowl receiver offers troubling injury update

Will the Washington Commanders sign a wide receiver before they open training camp next week? While it appears increasingly unlikely that Washington will sign a receiver in the coming days, the possibility remains open that it could sign one before Week 1.

Brandon Aiyuk seemed the most obvious name for months. That appears off the table now for multiple reasons. Stefon Diggs remains available, but may not be for long. Someone the Commanders know well, Deebo Samuel, also remains available.

The most accomplished wide receiver still available is Tyreek Hill. The 32-year-old Hill has been a popular name to link to Washington on a short-term deal. However, it’s uncertain if the Commanders have shown any interest in Hill. If they haven’t, it may be due to his injury. Hill recently revealed a troubling update on his left knee.

“So it’s about 10 months after doing two surgeries,” Hill said on social media, via John Breech of CBS Sports. “My left leg is the one that I injured. I have no power in my left leg at all, so I’m trying to regain all the power back in my left leg, but it’s one day at a time.”

Hill injured his left knee last September. He reportedly suffered multiple torn ligaments, including an ACL, and his dislocated his kneecap. 10 months from when he was injured, and Hill saying he has no power in that leg is certainly concerning. Even more so, considering much of Hill’s game is built on speed.

Injury or not, it’s unknown if the Commanders would’ve considered Hill. Even before his injury, he was already showing some signs of decline in 2024. With Hill’s health still an issue, you can officially cross him off the list of potential veteran receivers Washington could sign ahead of Week 1.
