On Saturday, July 25, the San Francisco 49ers announced that head coach Kyle Shanahan was involved in a car accident. While they didn’t share the date of the accident, the team did say he would still be involved in training camp activities, but on a “limited basis,” so it appears the injuries were large enough to impede upon his involvement in the offseason.

“San Francisco 49ers Head Coach Kyle Shanahan was involved in a car accident last week where he suffered non-life-threatening injuries,” the team said in a statement. “Coach Shanahan will participate in team activities on a limited basis at the start of training camp while he recovers. Coach Shanahan and the 49ers organization would like to sincerely thank all first responders involved for their efforts and care.”

The statement added that assistant head coach Chris Foerster “along with team coordinators will handle head coach responsibilities during this period.”

The team also shared the statement on social media, and followers responded with their well-wishes on X.

“Get healthy and be well, Coach. We gotta a great rivalry to continue,” one said.

“Get well soon Coach. Know your staff’s got your back until you do,” another added.

“(Prayers) for Kyle I hope he has a quick recovery and he’s back on the field soon,” one more said.

Shanahan has coached the San Francisco 49ers for nine full seasons. He was hired on Feb. 6, 2017, so he’s entering year No. 10 as the franchise’s head coach. We send our thoughts and prayers and wish him a full and quick recovery.
