Netflix subscribers can now leave Halloween and horror-oriented releases behind for a new weekend filled with exciting movies from different genres to start November strongly. On last weekend’s Netflix movie recommendations, I talked about KPop Demon Hunters, Hubie Halloween, The Menu, three movies that felt like fitting picks for the Halloween weekend for completely different reasons, bringing out a plurality of tones.
At the time of writing, none of those movies are trending on Netflix in the United States, which comes as a major sign of change, firmly remembering that Halloween is over, and that it is time for something new. With that in mind, I curated a list of movies that takes the new arrivals on Netflix in November into account and also keeps trends in mind.
Netflix subscribers looking for action-packed and/or intense movies on the streaming service this weekend have come to the right place, and if you want to watch a project with a major star, then these three films should also be to your liking. After all, they feature major names like Harrison Ford, Miles Teller, and Charlie Hunnam, all recognizable stars.
One of the movies on our new Netflix list is an action fantasy following the origin story of a character who has been adapted into several different types of projects over the years, but through the lens of a director known for a signature style. The other movies Netflix subscribers can’t forget are an intense drama with music at the forefront and a close-quarters action thriller. These are the best movies to watch on Netflix this weekend:
3
Air Force One (1997)
First up is Ford’s classic political action thriller Air Force One, which sees the actor play the President of the United States, James Marshall, as his plane, the Air Force One, is taken over by terrorists. What the criminals did not expect was that the President would take action into his own hands, and as a Vietnam War veteran, he has the skills to take the fight to them, directly engaging the terrorists to retake the plane.
Air Force One is an intense action thriller, with close-quarters action and a magnetic turn from Ford as Marshall, giving fans of the genre a unique kind of action hero to cheer for, as it is not often that POTUS himself gets down to business in fiction. It is claustrophobic, fast-paced, action-packed, and comes with great performances from Ford, Gary Oldman as the terrorist Egor Korshunov, and more. Air Force One was released on Netflix on November 1.
2
Whiplash (2014)
Another movie that arrived on Netflix on November 1 was Whiplash, which stars Miles Teller as Andrew Neiman, a jazz drummer desperately trying to be the best as he studies under the frightening Terence Fletcher, played by J. K. Simmons. Their dynamic is what makes the movie, as Fletcher pushes Neiman past his breaking point with teaching methods that are extreme, to say the least, but the young musician is not one to back down.

While some might be turned away at the sight of a musical drama, Whiplash is a movie that everyone should watch, as it is deeply captivating, with a frenetic story, electric performances, and a psychological breakdown of a mentor and mentee relationship at the highest level. With movies like Whiplash and La La Land, Damien Chazelle has cemented himself as one of the best directors of his generation.

King Arthur: Legend of the Sword (2017)
King Arthur: Legend of the Sword is the only movie on our Netflix recommendations to be trending on the streaming service right now, as it ranks 6th in the United States. This is a fantasy movie directed by Guy Ritchie, who Netflix subscribers might know as the creators of the hit crime thriller series The Gentlemen, starring Theo James and Kaya Scodelario. As its title suggests, expect plenty of sword fights.
King Arthur: Legend of the Sword is a fast-paced action fantasy movie with entertaining performances from actors like Charlie Hunnam and Jude Law, kinetic fight sequences, and Ritchie’s usual visual flair and witty dialogue. Instead of going for a more fantastical approach to King Arthur’s story, Ritchie takes a modern and gritty path with the material, resulting in a blast of a movie to end the weekend on Netflix.
