2027: Play football on election day, complain later – Umahi warn voters

Ahead of the 2027 presidential election, the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, has charged people of the South-East to ensure that they perform their civic duty on election day.

Umahi warned voters in the South-East against playing football when they should be performing their civic duty.

In a video circulating on social media, Umahi said voters who play football on election day might complain when bad leaders are elected into office.

He said: “Let it not be during voting you are playing football. Then tomorrow you start to come and complain. It is not acceptable.”

Umahi urged people of the South-East to appreciate President Bola Tinubu by voting for him.

He also noted that Tinubu would be re-elected despite criticism and insults from some Nigerians.

Umahi added: “I was governor, I was deputy governor. I was a party chairman. Never in the history of the South-East did we witness even five per cent of the federal budget in the South-East. And so we are witnessing this.

“The road is being fixed and then you just take it for granted. You say it’s what he’s supposed to do. What of the people that are supposed to do it that didn’t do it? Did they give you change?

“If you are insulting us, insulting the president, it doesn’t stop him from winning.”
