Vice President Kashim Shettima has said that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has always supported and identified with Northern Nigeria.

He made this disclosure in his speech at the flag-off of Tinubu’s re-election campaign in Kaduna.

According to him, Tinubu has always stood by Northern Nigeria, which was why he gave former Vice President and current African Democratic Congress, ADC, presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, political succour when he was allegedly harassed and chased out of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in 2007.

He said 2027 was the time for Northern Nigeria to repay Tinubu for his longstanding support for the region.

“President Tinubu is one person who has identified with the North over the years.

“When former Vice President Atiku Abubakar was harassed and chased out of the PDP with his tail between his legs, he ran to the Lion of Bourdillon, who gave him political succour and a platform to run for the presidency in this country in 2007 under his platform,” he stated.

Tinubu, in his speech at the rally, urged Nigerians not to be deceived by political gimmicks over the possible return of fuel subsidies, noting that the policy was gone for good.

Recall that the Governor of Kaduna State, Uba Sani, had vowed that Northern Nigeria would vote massively for Tinubu in 2027.

Atiku Abubakar of the ADC, Peter Obi of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, and 15 other presidential candidates are seeking to defeat Tinubu in the January 16, 2027, presidential election.
