2027: ADC calls for probe into alleged threats against voters by Kebbi LG chairman

The African Democratic Congress, ADC, Kebbi State chapter, has called for an investigation into alleged threats and intimidation attributed to the Chairman of Gwandu Local Government Area, Alhaji Atiku Kalcha.

In a statement issued on Thursday by the party’s Deputy Publicity Secretary, Engr. Abubakar Atiku Musa, the ADC alleged that the council chairman threatened residents who refused to vote for the All Progressives Congress, APC, candidate at polling units in the local government.

The party said the allegations should be subjected to an impartial and thorough investigation to establish whether the statements were made.

It added that, if confirmed, the alleged threats would constitute a serious concern for electoral freedom, public peace and citizens’ right to vote for candidates of their choice.

The ADC called on the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services, DSS, and other relevant security agencies to investigate the allegations and take appropriate action if any threat or plan to incite violence is established.

The party also urged security agencies to strengthen measures to protect voters and prevent intimidation before, during and after the 2027 elections.

The ADC further called on political parties and their supporters to refrain from actions capable of causing violence or disrupting public peace in the state.

The party cited a previous incident in which its governorship candidate, Alhaji Abubakar Malami, was reportedly attacked, with some vehicles damaged and individuals injured, saying it did not want a repeat of such incidents.

The ADC urged the Kebbi State Government to ensure a peaceful environment where citizens can participate in political activities and exercise their right to vote freely without fear or intimidation.
