Everywhere you turn these days, you’re getting inundated with AI, whether it’s ads for OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Google’s automated answers from Gemini, or AI-generated images across social media.
Then there are headlines like this: An Anthropic researcher resigned this week because, as he put it, the “people building AI earnestly believe that it could kill us all by the end of the decade.” While that remains to be seen, it’s impossible to converse with one of the chatbots and not feel like you’re starring in an episode of “Black Mirror.” Hollywood has been imagining the possibilities — and dangers — of artificial intelligence for decades, going all the way back to 1968’s “2001: A Space Odyssey” and the AI known as HAL 9000.
