Zay Flowers injury update leaves Ravens guessing on Week 2 status

· · 2 min read

The NFL season is already presenting the Baltimore Ravens with an injury concern, as wide receiver Zay Flowers may not be available for their Week 2 matchup against the New Orleans Saints.

Flowers left Sunday’s 41-23 victory over the Indianapolis Colts after aggravating a hamstring injury that he initially suffered during joint practices with the Minnesota Vikings in the preseason.

According to Ian Rapoport, Flowers is scheduled to undergo an MRI to determine the severity of the injury. While the issue is not currently considered serious, Flowers is considered day-to-day, leaving his status for Week 2 uncertain.

Flowers makes immediate impact before injury

Flowers was one of the biggest offensive standouts in Baltimore’s Week 1 win. The 25-year-old wide receiver recorded five catches for 150 yards, including a 54-yard touchdown in the first half. However, the hamstring problem forced him to miss the entire second half.

The injury comes at an unfortunate time for Flowers, who is coming off an impressive 2024 season. The Boston College product finished with more than 1,200 receiving yards across 17 regular-season games and matched his career high with five receiving touchdowns. He also contributed a rushing touchdown, further highlighting his importance to Baltimore’s offense.

With Flowers potentially sidelined, the Ravens could be forced to adjust their receiving rotation heading into Week 2.

Ravens face another receiver injury

Baltimore already lost another wide receiver during Sunday’s game. Ja’Kobi Lane, the team’s No. 3 receiver, suffered a wrist injury in the first half and did not return.

If Flowers is ultimately ruled out against New Orleans, the Ravens will likely turn to LaJohntay Wester and Chris Moore for expanded roles. Both players could see more snaps and targets as Baltimore attempts to replace the production and explosiveness Flowers provides.

For now, the Ravens will wait for the results of Flowers’ MRI before determining his availability. The fact that the injury is considered day-to-day provides some optimism, but his status could remain unclear until later in the week. Given his early impact and importance to the offense, Baltimore will be hoping its star receiver can recover quickly enough to suit up in Week 2.
