Zamfara govt vows intensified action against banditry after death of three policemen

The Zamfara State Government has reiterated its commitment to intensifying efforts against banditry and other criminal activities following the death of three police officers during an operation in the state.

The officers were reportedly killed by an improvised explosive device, IED, allegedly planted by bandits along the Anka–Bagega road in Anka Local Government Area.

Speaking during funeral prayers for the deceased officers in Gusau, the Secretary to the State Government, Abubakar Nakwada, described the incident as tragic and expressed condolences to the families of the victims and the Nigeria Police Force.

Nakwada, who represented the state government at the funeral, said the deaths of the officers would strengthen rather than weaken the resolve of authorities to tackle insecurity.

“This tragic incident will not make us relent; it only emboldens us. We will intensify our efforts, and victory is assured, In-Sha-Allah,” he said.

He conveyed the condolences of the Zamfara State Government to the Inspector-General of Police, the Zamfara State Police Command, the bereaved families and the wider police community.

The funeral prayers were conducted at the Police Command Headquarters in Gusau and were led by the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, in accordance with Islamic rites.

Nakwada also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting the families of the fallen officers and pledged continued collaboration with security agencies to combat banditry and other forms of criminality across the state.

He prayed for the repose of the officers’ souls and for strength for their families to bear the loss.
