YouTube Gold: Team USA Encounters A Haka

Many of you will know what a Haka is, but some may not. For those who don’t, the Haka is an aggressive dance of the Maori people that was later adopted by New Zealand sporting teams. They traditionally start sporting events with a Haka, which occasionally confuses their opponents.

Take the 2014 U.S. entry into FIBA World Cup play.

Pretty clearly, several members of Team USA had no idea what was going on. When you look at the faces of Derrick Rose, Kenneth Faried, and James Harden, they look more than a little concerned.

Mike Krzyzewski, whose preparation for games was legendary, may not have mentioned Hakas to his players.

Ultimately, it didn’t matter. The best intimidation is on the court, and the U.S. won comfortably, 98-71.

But if the concern on the faces of the American players was all that New Zealand accomplished in this game (it wasn’t), it would have been completely worth it. This is a very funny video.
