Your lie irredeemable – Shehu tells power minister over ‘freezer is freezing’ comment

Public affairs commentator, Mahdi Shehu, has criticised the Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, over his claim that some Nigerians asked him to slow down because their freezers were freezing.

Shehu reacted in a post shared on his X account on Wednesday night, describing the minister’s remarks as false and accusing him of making misleading statements.

“When telling barefaced lies becomes a trademark, it transmutes into pathology and hence incurable and irredeemable,” Shehu wrote.

“Such is the case in the minister’s shameless lie that smells to heaven,” he added.

Shehu’s reaction came shortly after Tegbe spoke at the commissioning of a 3-megawatt solar hybrid power project at the University of Abuja on Wednesday.

During the event, the minister said recent interventions by the Federal Government had improved electricity supply in some parts of the country.

According to him, areas that previously had no electricity for three months were now receiving up to 18 hours of power daily.

“Some areas called me to say, look, I should slow down, that everything in their freezer is freezing.

“That is what a freezer is meant to do. Let it freeze the food that needs to be frozen,” Tegbe said.
