Manchester United will reportedly launch another attempt to sign young Leicester City midfielder Louis Page.
The Red Devils have seemingly completed their midfield revamp, as they’re now close to buying Carlos Baleba from Brighton.
The Cameroonian will join a department that features fellow new signings Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans, in addition to Kobbie Mainoo, while Tyler Fletcher and his twin brother Jack will offer extra depth when required.
Man Utd eyeing a move for Louis Page
While Man Utd’s midfield department looks sorted, the club is also planning for the future. In recent days, it was reported that INEOS made an offer for Louis Page worth around £10 million, but it was rejected by Leicester.
The 18-year-old was promoted to the senior squad last season and went on to make 18 appearances in the Championship.
Although his contribution wasn’t enough to prevent the Foxes from getting relegated to League One, he still managed to earn himself suitors, who were impressed with the composure and skill set he showcased at his tender age.
So according to British football journalist Ben Jacobs, MUFC have yet to give up on Page, so he expects them to launch a new onslaught.
“Is Page still a target for Man Utd? Yes!” claimed the transfer market expert during his latest appearance on The United Stand.
“Man United had a bid rejected last week; I expect them to be back, and the player is likely to be on the move.”
It should be noted that the Lutterworth native is tied to Leicester through a contract valid until the summer of 2029.
The Foxes were keen to tie him down with a long-term professional deal after he turned 17 last summer.
Where would Page fit at Man Utd?
If Baleba is to join Man Utd, Michael Carrick will have four senior central midfielders at his disposal, in addition to Mason Mount, who showed he can adapt to a deeper role prior to his pre-season injury.
Moreover, the Fletcher twins will be eyeing more first-team opportunities this season, especially Tyler, who appears to be higher than his brother on the manager’s pecking order.
Therefore, Page could struggle to earn his senior debut this season, and thus might have to settle for a place with Man Utd’s U21 team.
The young midfielder may view it as a step back in his career, having made 22 appearances at the senior level for Leicester.
Nevertheless, a move to Carrington could help him develop his skill set while training alongside top-notch stars, a boon that the regressing Leicester can no longer offer.
