The New York Yankees got some terrible news recently, with Aaron Judge’s injury diagnosis seemingly getting worse and worse with each update.
Finally, the reporting revealed that he has a stress fracture in his rib and will miss four to six weeks. The MVP is going to be out for a while, and the Yankees need to find a replacement.
According to Jack Curry of YES, the Yankees are recalling fellow 6-foot-7 slugger Spencer Jones from the minor leagues to take over Judge’s spot on the active roster.

“Spencer Jones will be recalled from AAA to take Aaron Judge’s roster spot. #yankees,” Curry reported Friday morning.
Losing Judge is going to be a huge blow for this team. And while Jones might be the same size as the Yankees superstar, there are some real questions about how good a hitter he’ll be for the Yankees.
The 25-year-old was called up already this season for his big league debut, and in 10 games, across 24 at-bats, Jones had four hits, all singles, with two RBIs, 12 strikeouts, three walks, and one stolen base. His .426 OPS leaves a lot to be desired.

Jones has thrived in the minors, hitting .269 this season with a .949 OPS with 13 homers in 43 games at Triple-A this season. Last year in 116 games, Jones hit 35 home runs with a .274 average and a .933 OPS.
While he’s played well in the minors the last few seasons, the Yankees really need Jones to turn things up in the Majors now that he’s replacing the injured Judge.
This is a huge opportunity for Jones, because if he can thrive as Judge’s replacement, he might be able to carve out a steady MLB role for himself this season as a key slugger in the Yankees’ potent offense.
