New York Yankees pitcher Yankees news: Encouraging Clark Schmidt injuryClarke Schmidt is continuing to recover from Tommy John surgery. The good news is that Schmidt recently had a fourth rehab outing that manager Aaron Boone said “went well,” MLB.com reports. While Schmidt is still expected to return at some point this month, it remains to be seen how many more rehab outings the pitcher will need.

Schmidt will likely work out of the bullpen once he returns. The 30-year-old could make an impact. A starting pitcher in recent years, Schmidt could be used as an opener or a multi-inning reliever. Additionally, Boone may just use him as a one-inning reliever as well. Either way, Schmidt’s impact could be significant.

The right-handed hurler has not appeared in an MLB game since the 2025 campaign. He pitched to a 3.32 ERA across 14 starts that season before suffering the injury.

Updates on Schmidt’s injury status will continue to be monitored and provided as they are made available.

The Yankees currently hold an overall record of 83-62. They are in second place in the American League East standings, where they trail the Tampa Bay Rays by 3.5 games as of this story’s writing. New York has been chasing Tampa Bay in the standings for a while now, and the ball club just cannot seem to create enough momentum to surpass the Rays in the division.

With only a few weeks remaining this season, the Yankees will attempt to find that momentum and win the AL East. If they fail to accomplish that feat, they are in a position to earn an AL Wild Card spot at the very least.
