Yankees need to trade for .949 OPS catcher to replace Austin Wells

The yankees" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">New York Yankees have no choice but to add a catcher at the trade deadline. We can go down a somewhat small list of what the Yankees need, but there’s no debate that something has to be done for this organization to feel confident heading into the second half of the season and October.

The Yankees are a very good team on paper, but still not good enough to probably win a World Series. Of course, there are a lot of factors in play, but New York adding a catcher would be a very wise decision if it’s serious about winning a World Series.

Searching for a potential option, one reporter recently floated the idea of the Yankees going after Ryan Jeffers, a veteran catcher from the twins" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">Minnesota Twins.

There’s an expectation that the Twins are going to be one of the biggest sellers in Major League Baseball this August.

“Twins catcher Ryan Jeffers is currently on the IL with a left hamate bone fracture. But before going down on May 19, Jeffers was slashing .295/.408/.541 with a .949 OPS, seven home runs and 26 RBI in 37 games. The right-handed hitting catcher is a perfect match for the New York Yankees and could help any playoff team with his bat. Jeffers will be a free agent this winter and if he comes back healthy the Twins should trade him,” Pat Ragazzo wrote.

I wouldn’t mind bringing in Jeffers, even if he’s not exactly a great offensive player over the course of his career. I’d also be interested if the Yankees could get in the mix for some of the starters and bullpen guys from the Twins as well.

If New York could make this a bigger deal to improve its roster, that’s where things would get interesting.
