Wyndham Clark says how he honestly feels now about damaging lockers at Oakmont in 2025

Wyndham Clark received huge criticism for his actions during the U.S. Open at Oakmont last year, and rightly so.

Clark missed the cut at the U.S. Open at Oakmont in 2025, and he proceeded to head into the clubhouse and let out his anger on his locker.

Pictures emerged of the damaged locker inside the Oakmont clubhouse and it soon became evident that Clark was the culprit.

Wyndham Clark was banned from playing at Oakmont as a result, and was told to pay for the locker damages, make a meaningful charitable contribution, and complete counselling or anger management sessions.

Clark was criticised for his comments after the Oakmont locker room incident, when he failed to properly take accountability for his actions.

So, with that in mind, it was interesting to hear his response to questions about his behavior last year during his press conference ahead of the U.S. Open this week at Shinnecock Hills.

Wyndham Clark says how he feels now about damaging lockers at Oakmont

The 2023 U.S. Open champion addressed the media at Shinnecock Hills on Monday afternoon.

Clark was asked by one reporter to share what he has learned over the past year since the incident at Oakmont.

“Yeah, that was a really challenging time and something I’ve deeply regretted and feel awful that I did that,“ the 32-year-old admitted.

“But there were so many good lessons in that that really taught me a bunch.

“I’ve really come a long way, and I’m excited for this year’s Open for some redemption and to move forward and enjoy the challenges of Shinnecock and how great this place is and how amazing this championship is.“

Clark may be ready to move on, but the truth of the matter is that is not his call to make. Those who were affected by his behavior at Oakmont decide when it’s time to move on.

Wyndham Clark’s opinion on Shinnecock Hills as a golf course

Clark responded when asked by reporters to share his thoughts on Shinnecock Hills.

“Well, when I first played it, we had an amazing day,“ he said.

“It was blowing less than five miles an hour. It was beautiful. Got to play with a member here who’s a buddy of mine. It was just really special. I loved it.

“Of course watching Brooks that year was amazing. Then you go back to Retief winning and Corey Pavin, there’s been some awesome champions here.

“I personally love this place because I grew up at Cherry Hills, and that’s a William Flynn course. So is Shinnecock. There’s even little connections that way.

“Already before I came here, I was already excited to play it just because of that connection.“
