Wyndham Clark criticizes Medinah fans on day one of the Presidents Cup, ‘it was kind of dead’

Wyndham Clark and Collin Morikawa defeated international duo Ryan Fox and Adam Scott 3&2 on Thursday at the Presidents Cup.

Clark and Morikawa dovetailed really well and they were far too good for the Australian and the New Zealander.

The 2026 US Open champion started off really well, but went off the boil midway through his round, before finishing really strongly.

Wyndham Clark has experienced a strange season, winning three times, but also enduring some really tough times on the golf course due to fan abuse.

Clark has one of the most impressive skillsets in the game, and he has managed to put everything together this year.

The two-time major champion produced some brilliant golf at times during day one at the Presidents Cup, but he seemingly had an issue with the lack of atmosphere created by the home fans.

Clark addressed the media on Thursday evening after he and Morikawa won a point for Team USA at Medinah.

The 32-year-old was asked about the vibes out on the golf course during the first day’s play.

“I do want to say — and these guys are going to laugh, but it was kind of dead out there,“ Clark responded.

“I felt like the momentum could have been better, to be honest, because we weren’t really feeling the fans, I think, as much as normal.

“There were a few shots — I mean, Collin hit a 5-wood on, what was it, 11 to like 10 feet, and we didn’t even know if it was on the green because no one clapped. It was a little surprising.

“We’d make some big putts — I’m saying this more as a challenge that hopefully tomorrow and the weekend the fans are out there really rooting us on, and regardless of what happens, we have the momentum.“

The fans at Medinah can look at those comments two ways. They will either be angry at Clark’s remarks, and vent their frustration with him on Friday.

Or they will step up to the challenge and create a better atmosphere on day two.

Wyndham Clark clearly feels as though the fans need to get behind the US players more at the Presidents Cup this week.

However, as we saw at the Ryder Cup last year, there is a very fine line between US fans supporting their players and abusing the opposition.
