Wycombe sign ex-England striker Ings

Wycombe Wanderers have signed former Burnley, Liverpool and England striker Danny Ings.

Ings, 34, started this campaign without a club having spent last season in the Championship with Sheffield United.

But managerless League One Wycombe have now become the eighth club of the Winchester-born player’s 17-year professional career.

Ings is available for selection to make his debut for the Chairboys in Saturday’s meeting with Reading at Adams Park, where they are yet to win this season.

Wycombe are 14th in the table, having parted company with Michael Duff on 8 September, since when Tom Hounsell has been in caretaker charge.

Ings, who played alongside Wycombe coach Sam Vokes at Burnley, began his career at Bournemouth.

He has also had spells with Liverpool, where he was one of Brendan Rodgers’ last signings in the summer of 2015, before making big-money moves to Southampton, Aston Villa and West Ham United.

Ings also scored once in his three England appearances, in a friendly against Wales in 2020.

“Danny joined up with the team on Friday last week,” Wycombe director of football strategy and data intelligence Tom Stockwell said.

“He has trained with the group since, so we know he’s fit and sharp, and ready.”
